The products of the cluster include different varieties of rice and by-products, each having many applications. While rice has critical application as a food in terms of cereal, rice bread, noodles, pasta, etc., its by-products also have a range of applications. Rice bran, for example, has application in terms of edible oil and non-edible bran has application in cosmetics and soap. Broken rice has use in terms of rice flour, wine and industrial gums and dyes. Rice husk is utilised as a fuel for commercial rice mill steam generators. Rice bran is a rich source of vitamin B and rice bran cooking oil, extracted from bran, can decrease blood cholesterol levels. The remaining bran residue is used in animal feed production. Broken rice, upon milling is also used to make livestock feed or made into instant noodles.
